What You'll Do
Cisco is looking for an Optical Transceiver Module Mechanical Engineer in the Transceiver Module Group located in San Jose, CA- US. TMG manages all optical interconnection technologies in Cisco, spanning from 100Mbit/s to 400Gbit/s interfaces across all of the media, from Cu cables to Multimode Fiber to Single Mode Fiber. You will be a pivotal member of a new product development and sustaining team, with responsibility for overall mechanical transceiver design. You will be working on transceiver optical modules across most Cisco platforms giving you the opportunity to interact across product lines.

High Level Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the mechanical aspects of transceivers within TMG:
  1) Define and write module mechanical specs
  2) Review designs for ODM/JDM sources as well as internally developed products (housing, latching, and tolerance)
  3) Validate and debug
  4) Tolerance analysis (module to connector/cage and optical port interconnect)
  5) Extraction/insertion features (pull tab/latches)
  6) Thermal analysis (in collaboration with other Cisco engineering design and validation teams)
  7) Design for EMI/EMC compliance
  8) Review and approve mechanical test reports
- Debug and resolve mechanically-related customer escalations.
- Drive failure analysis and design of experiments (DOEs) to reach design solutions and corrective actions.
- Drive multiple complex issues to resolution.
- Opportunity to participate in industry consortium for specifications
-Work with cross-functional project teams and supply base throughout product development phase and support initial product ramp.

Work environment will be characterized by frequent contacts and interactions with many different design, test, manufacturing and support groups across Cisco and with third parties such as Suppliers and/or Customers. Who You Are
- Knowledge of Optical fiber mating and connectors mandatory
- Hands on experience with creating products (from concept to development)
- Capable to work in a dynamic environment and balance multiple high priority tasks
- Possesses a quality-oriented mindset and attention to details
- Strong troubleshooting, problem solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills
- Strong teamwork skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and people skills
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering with 10+ years of relevant experience of module development and design required.
- Experience required:
  1) 3D CAD modeling and drafting (ProE Creo).
  2) Finite Element/structural analysis, thermal simulation, CFD, ANSYS, Flotherm, tolerance analysis, GD&T.
  3) New Product Development and Spec development.
  4) Die-casting, sheet metal, materials, plastic parts, injection molding, tooling, jigs, fixtures, prototyping, 3D Printing, both high and low volume production, DFM/DFx, ODM/JDM.
  5) Working knowledge of general manufacturing operations, quality, and supplier management.
  6) Solid understanding of problem solving tools including design of experiments, root cause analysis, and statistical analytical tools.
