Job Title    Software Engineer 

Spitfire is a new upcoming premier service class product positioned as Cisco's next generation routing platform to enable customer solutions involving SP routing features, Data Center Interconnect, Cloud, Video, Peering applications. The convergence of these solutions over one infrastructure is the engine of significant new innovation opportunities. This is a ground floor opportunity to lead in the next phase of product growth with industry leading platforms, forwarding features, multi-terabyte solutions in the service provider space.  

 

Role & Responsibilities 

This job involves designing, coding, testing and maintenance of software for high performance next generation systems. Involves working very closely with various teams that develop Hardware, ASICs, software and diagnostics.  The role will require working closely with the test teams to help with the software and system verification activities. Opportunity to work with various teams front ending customers.  

 

The Team 

Spitfire and NCS5500 platform team seeks experienced engineers to work on the next generation fully virtualized carrier class routing platforms at Cisco that are being-designed(Spitfire) and successfully deployed (NCS5500) at many service providers around the world.  

 

Minimum Qualifications 

*     Bachelor or Master Degree in CS/EE, or equivalent experience is required. Any other demonstrated high technology aptitude is desired

*     5+ years of Extensive experience in design and software development of networking products.

*     Experience with Agile/Scrum process is highly desirable

*     Experience with switch/router/embedded systems designs and implementations

*     Proficient in software development using C language & development on multi-threaded RTOS systems.

*     Foundation in basic Routing and Forwarding technologies. Experience in one or more of forwarding technologies IPv4/IPv6/MPLS etc. 

*     Good understanding of Linux internals ex: PCIe, Interrupts/DMA handling etc., Virtualization in Linux.

*     Proficient in debugging on the target using tools such as GDB etc.

*     Understanding of Ethernet, Optics and Timing standards is a plus.

*     BS/Masters in CS, EE or equivalent  

 

Desired Skills 

*     Experience with Virtualization, Networking Protocols, L2/L3 layer technology

*     Experience designing and implementing for complex software systems is a plus

*     Basic understanding of new technologies like Open stack and SDN

*     Must be a go-getter, willing to take complete ownership of complex technical problems. 

*     Should be a great team player. 

*     Excellent communication and technical leadership skills are required.

*     Should be able to think clearly and articulate with appropriate level of abstraction his/her thought process on complex technological issues.
