Project Scope Summary

- Extending an existing SDN user-interface (HTML 5)

Background and context

The IT industry is changing at a rapid pace and is going through a number of industry transitions.

Bi-modal IT,  where organisations build a differentiated approach to application development and distinguish between legacy  business applications and cloud native application, is gaining momentum.

Infrastructure automation and programmability is considered as a means to lower OPEX and to bring a DevOps approach to infrastructure management.

With Hybrid Cloud solutions, customers get the choice to transparently run application on premise or on Public Cloud platforms.

Cisco is in the middle of this transition and a lot of our products and solution developments are happing in the context of this always ongoing evolution.

Cisco Belux provides a 3 to 4 month internship position for a motivated student with the right technical skill set to bring a lot of these market evolutions together and to combine them with our technology.

Team

The candidate will be integrated into the Data Center team of Cisco Belux Sales organization made of Pre-sales technical engineers & Sales Specialists responsible for shaping customer oriented solutions. This team is responsible for all Data Center related projects in Belgium & Luxembourg addressing the needs of customers from all size and vertical segment. It can vary from schools and universities to banks and public institutions to manufacturing companies. Projects are integrating all the latest technologies such as SDN, VXLAN, virtualization & containerization, automation & orchestration and trends like hybrid IT, DevOps, etc

The environment will allow the candidate to have the appropriate experience and exposure to real cases. The candidate will be also exposed and mentored by resources from the Business Unit responsible for the SDN DC portfolio and SDN experts from the services department

Project Scope

A Cisco SDN Data Center product comes with a user interface (UI) in HTML 5.

This interface does not meet the needs of some customers, especially those oriented more "classic network" than SDN.

The goal of the internship is to develop an extension of the existing interface within a Docker container executed on the SDN platform.

This extension must be able to facilitate what is called "day 2 operations" of the Cisco SDN platform for Data Centers.

In a more specific way, the extension must be pleasant and simple to use. The use of modern development techniques

(D3js, node.js, etc.) and knowledge of HTML 5 frameworks (bootstrap, etc.) will be privileged.

Drag and drop objects obtained via the REST API on graphic elements, for example, or ability to reconfigure these objects intuitively.

Required technical skills & learning domains

- Full-stack web development with a focus on user interface (Javascript D3.js, node.js, HTML5, etc.) and user experience

- Interactions with REST APIs and JSON / XML

- Python programming (2.7 and 3.0)

- Docker containers

- SDN (Software Defined Networking) & Cisco ACI (Application Centric Infrastructure) concepts
