This position requires an individual with proven technical skills in the areas of wireless communication in 4G/5G Radio Access networks, LTE/5G, CBRS spectrum, TDD, FDD, OFDM, massive MIMO, beamforming, adaptive beamforming, nulling, steering and advanced Antenna systems, multi-RAT connectivity, multipoint transmission scheme, wireless scheduling etc. The individual will work on leading proof of concepts for validating the interworking of new RAN technologies where complex analysis of data requires in-depth evaluation of various factors and scenarios using knowledge and expertise derived from strong educational background and work experience.



The ideal individual can develop and execute test plans to validate RF propagation, standards compliance, interoperability, performance, load, and report on results. The individual must have strong experience with various testing tools such as RF analyzers, traffic generators, packet analyzers… The ideal candidate should be able to demonstrate in depth understanding of concepts such as wireless propagation, link budget analysis, MIMO, OFDM, wireless networks. Proven experience and familiarity with Radio Access Network protocols for LTE, LTE advanced, and 5G radio access network with emphasis on L1 and L2 expertize.



Working as a Principal Member of Technical Staff (PMTS), the Individual must demonstrate a proven track record of having extensive experience and expertise in new technology evaluation, testing, conducting Proof-of-Concepts and trials for Fixed Wireless radio access networks. The PMTS must demonstrate the ability to lead projects, design test cases and test objects, and provide strategic leadership in evaluating technologies and presenting recommendations.



The individual will be required to demonstrate highly technical skills and deep understanding and working familiarity with wireless communication systems in general and 3GPP based 4G/5G Radio Access Network in particular. The individual will be recognized in the company as a technical leader within this area and may lead projects across multiple groups as it relates to developing and assessing the overall technology strategy for Advanced Fixed Wireless 4G/5G based networks and help determine various critical aspects of Advanced Fixed Wireless networks needed to get there such as, performance, architecture solutions, deployment models and co-existence with LTE and evolution to 5G.



The individual must possess technical knowledge and understanding of SDN/NFV in the context of radio access networks and how that applies to our domain 2.0 vision of 5G



**Key Roles and Responsibilities** **:**



1. Develop and write test cases and plans for Advanced Fixed Wireless RFPs/RFIs, conduct reviews and assessment of vendor responses, and produce findings and recommendations to the business, peers and leadership on vendor solution readiness and applicability.

2. Develop and execute test plans to validate the technical requirements for advanced Fixed wireless Solutions based on LTE/5G features and standards incorporating advanced antenna techniques, FD-MIMO, TDD, adaptive beamforming, nulling and steering.

3. Model propagation, system resource scheduling, path loss, coverage reliability, capacity, throughput, coverage for solutions and spectrum bands and work across functional teams to build and refine the models and findings.

4. Design and set up test beds to aid in the production of findings that quantify and qualify the advanced technology components of LTE/5G, CBRS spectrum, massive MIMO, beamforming, adaptive beamforming, nulling, steering and advanced Antenna systems, multi-RAT connectivity, multipoint transmission scheme, wireless scheduling etc. and develop deep technical understanding of how these technologies impact AT&T’s fixed wireless plans.

5. Collaborate with peers, infrastructure and device vendors to develop and implement multiple testbeds and conduct trials related to Advanced Fixed wireless networks based on advanced LTE and 5G features to assess vendor RFI/RFP responses and help assess advanced systems performance and features.

6. Work with the vendors and internal teams to develop new features and enhancements based on learnings from the testbeds, standards bodies, conferences, and technical events participation and involvement.



**Job Contribution** **:**



Contribute towards the overall AT&T technology strategy for Fixed Wireless Access Networks. This includes (but not limited to) evaluating the performance of various new concepts that are central to LTE Advanced and 5G, evaluate and develop new Fixed Wireless architecture solutions and their performance impact, develop the transport requirements, the core requirements, etc.



Contributes to the standards development and to the various forums and bodies that govern the technology implementation/ideation and spectrums such as the CBRS alignment, WNN Forum, 3GPP…



Contribute to the overall ATT wireless strategy whether fixed or mobile and ensure unified strategies that complement each other are being developed and realized.



**Qualifications**



Education: Required: Masters or PhD in an approved field such as Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering or Mathematics from an accredited university.



Experience: 4 years of relevant experience with PhD or 8 years with Masters in an approved field of study.



**Knowledge:**



+ Extensive experience with testing and trial activity of new and advanced wireless technologies related to 4G and 5G systems.

+ Has extensive and in depth understanding and experience in wireless communication systems especially 3GPP based 4G/5G systems.

+ Able to demonstrate in depth understanding and hands on experience of concepts such as wireless propagation, link budget analysis, MIMO, OFDM, wireless networks.

+ Proven experience and familiarity with Radio Access Network protocols for LTE, LTE advanced, and 5G radio access network with emphasis on L1 and L2 expertize.

+ Working understanding of concepts related to SDN/NFV in the context of radio access networks and how that applies to our domain 2.0 vision of 5G. Has experience with application of these skill and concepts toward research, development, and testing of new technology, concepts and ideas for wireless networks.

+ Analysis/Problem Solving: Can solve complex, critical problems related to significant and unique issues. Ability to uses extensive research and interpretative thinking and utilizes innovative methods in developing solutions.



**Communication Skills:**



Able to clearly articulate both verbally and in writing, various levels of complexity on a given subject and is able to explain and provide technical expertise to peers across the company. Actively promote good working relationships and Develop mutually beneficial strategic alliances with customers.
