Director, Sales – Public Sector (Central Government & Defence)


What You'll Do

As Director Sales for Public Sector, you will lead a high performing Sales Team to drive increased sales bookings and deliver improved productivity while enhancing customer satisfaction for our Central Government and Defence Accounts across India.


In this role, you would provide the vision and direction for our India GTM strategy including:


  • Establishing Cisco Value proposition in Public Sector
  • Establishing impactful relationships with all internal (Architectures, Services, Marketing, Channel) and external stakeholders (Partners, Distributors, Consultants)
  • Providing vision and leadership to in-country teams, enhance sales team productivity through strong leadership and productivity enhancements


Role requires a strong background in executive-level communication, building customer and partner relationships and account planning. This role involves positioning and promoting the partner and customer value proposition for Cisco's solutions in Public Sector, the development and expansion of opportunities, and reinforcing existing relationships. The ideal candidate possesses strategic business and technical knowledge, and can succeed as a leader and mentor in a demanding and rewarding sales environment. You would do this by ensuring that any programs or initiatives developed and implemented are in line with the cultural values, governance guidelines and strategic direction of the company. You would participate in developing next generation sales support and delivery models for customers



Who You'll Work With

In this leadership role, you will report directly to the Managing Director – INDIA & SAARC, Amit Malik. You would have a strong, well-established team across India, with cross-matrix reporting of supporting Virtual and Field teams.


You will be responsible for an annual booking/revenue quota of $100+M with significant growth in subsequent years. Develop and execute sales strategy and tactics that maximize Cisco opportunity within the customer environment. Lead a strong sales team to achieve and exceed sales quota and provide mentoring and coaching to the team on a regular basis. This position is responsible for accurate forecasting and managing health of business by delivering on all business parameters. Direct customer contact will comprise a major portion of this assignment. Must have both the sales skills and technical knowledge to make presentations and lead customer discussions to advance the sales process. Extensive travel may be required. Must be able to lead a geographically dispersed team, with both direct and indirect reports. Will need to make important resource decisions that apply both corporate and account team resources to new opportunities. Will work closely with various stakeholders in Channels, architectures, corporate affairs etc. 


Who You Are

To be successful in this role, you will need to have excellent Customer relationship & people management skills with a strong knack navigating and extracting value out of in-country and global cross-matrix organization.


  • Deep knowledge of Public sector, understanding of trends and the impact of technology on these trends
  • You should be able to discuss Cisco India business and functions with executives, both internal and external to Cisco on a Regional and Global basis
  • Lead and deliver balanced sales performance across the Public sector portfolio by building a sales management infrastructure capable of maintaining high growth rates while demonstrating strong pipeline, forecasting, and sales assessment predictability.
  • You would need to be able to actively recruit, motivate, and manage a highly effective sales organization that is accountable and that delivers clear results.


Other Prerequisites:

An MBA or graduate degree preferred. Sales management in similar business environment of Public Sector.

20+ years of sales experience. Specific examples of closing large, strategic deals.

Knowledge of market trends and strong connects in Central Ministries and Defence establishments.

Strong leadership skills in a cross-functional teaming environment.

Selling solutions to large customers.

Developing customer relationships. Understanding a broad range of Cisco technologies required   

All in all, you need general management ability to drive balanced growth in this key business segment.
