What You'll Do

As an Automation/Optical Engineer, you will justify, define, co-develop, and validate manufacturing assembly equipment and processes for optical sub-components, optical sub-assemblies and optic modules; specifically, high accuracy die bonding (eutectic and epoxy) with passive and active optical alignment.

In this role you will work in a fast-paced work environment to develop and deploy optical chip and module assembly infrastructure for full-scale production including but not limited to the following responsibilities;

*       Work with a team of NPI engineers and scientists to enable new technologies and develop (and bring to manufacturing) new automation equipment and processes required for new products.

*       Perform Design of Experiments to characterize, validate, and optimize prototype designs.

*       Influence designs to scale… work with designers and equipment vendors to specify, develop, and qualify new equipment and processes.

*       Use sound engineering practice and modeling techniques to design new/improved equipment, features, and fixtures.

*       Evaluate/contribute to proposals for capacity models and capital expenditure.

*       Manage equipment development, schedules, and installations.

*       Provide technical expertise and support during development, install, start-up, and preliminary production runs of new equipment and processes.

*       Provide technical oversight during start-ups to observe, troubleshoot, and document any process or scale-up issues.

*       Provide technical training to contract manufacturer equipment technicians and operators; transfer ownership to contract manufacturer for sustaining operations.

*       Support significant equipment/automation improvements.

*       Understand overall manufacturing plans and execution of high volume manufacturing strategies.

Who You'll Work With

Product Operations is the organization that enables and accelerates innovation to create an unrivaled customer experience & competitive advantage for Cisco through end to end Operations leadership and Product Lifecycle Management. In this role, you will be a key Product Operations team member specifically supporting the Transceiver Module Group.

You will be part of the Automation Equipment Engineering team that defines, justifies, implements, and validates manufacturing processes for passive and active optical sub-components, components, and module level assemblies.

Who You Are

Are you a strong leader with a practical approach and have a hands-on, high energy, can-do attitude with a collaborative style?

Join our team!

You have a BS/MS degree in electrical engineering, photonics, physics or equivalent educational background with 9+ years working experience on an optical components manufacturing line or supporting function. Specifically, transceiver modules or semi-conductor manufacturing, with a thorough understanding of bonding methods and materials used for passive and active alignments.

You are experienced with vision systems (assembly, alignment, inspection) and hands on experience with automated assembly systems.

Using DFM, DOE, FMEA, gauge R&R, and problem solving skills are your forte and you master the use of Statistical Tools and Software such as JMP and Mini Tab.

You have a fair knowledge of six-sigma, SPC and process capability, OCAP, written procedure, operator training, Kaizen or continuous improvement, and lean manufacturing techniques.

You have demonstrated record of failure analysis, yield and cycle time improvement and the ability to work with and drive global cross-functional groups and external partners.

Your strong communication and your influencing skills combined with the ability to lead, listen and be perceptive of others will be a strong asset for this role.
