Position Summary You will be reporting to the Infrastructure Platforms Manager within the EBMS MM&P (Media Management and Playout) Service Area. You will be responsible for developing a broad knowledge of the Infrastructure implementation and requirements for the assigned EBMS hub, and build strong relationships with and utilize the expertise of technical specialists across the Global infrastructure Team to ensure that the EBMS hub has fit for purpose Infrastructure. Within the IT Infrastructure Team, the Platforms Team is responsible for designing, delivering, maintaining and managing the compute and storage platforms for EBMS globally. The compute platform consists of x86 server hardware, VMware vSphere virtualization and mixed Linux and Windows OS estate. Additional tools including Puppet, Jenkins, Foreman, and Nagios are used to provide a high level of automation and agility. Experience & Knowledge Experience of designing, building, and supporting a broad range of IT systems in a fast paced commercial environment. Substantial experience of providing 3rd line operation support in a 24x7 Environment. Broad knowledge and experience across a number of IT platforms including VMware, Linux, WinTel, Storage, Network and connectivity. In-depth knowledge of standard Linux tools, scripting languages (Ruby, Bash, Perl, or Python) Rigorous and disciplined approach to documentation, and knowledge transfer. Understanding of IP networking and common protocols such as FTP, HTTP and SSH, and understanding of network security practices including the use of VPNs, ACLs and firewalls. Additional desirable skills for post-holder: Experience of systems automation, configuration management, and automated server builds, monitoring tools. Specifically Puppet and Foreman. Experience of LDAP, Kerberos and Linux Active Directory integration. Network Administration experience and certification – Juniper and Cisco. Knowledge & experience of SAN technologies; StorNext, iSCSI and Fibre Channel Knowledge & experience of using Amazon Web Services Experience of Senior Management liaison and of presenting information of a complex technical nature to a variety of audiences. Experience of Client liaison, including acting as a Technical representative in meetings with a Client’s technical and non technical staff. Some knowledge of project work and methodologies, ideally gained through involvement in complex high profile projects in the broadcast sector. Ability to process and present complex statistical data in a clear and concise fashion for Senior Management consumption. Person Specification Clear ability to multi-task in a complex dynamic environment with regularly changing priorities Strong belief in and commitment to structured and formalised approaches to documentation Deep understanding of customer service with the ability to view systems in terms of service provision rather than discrete technical components, and should see technology as a business enabler Strong ownership and sense of responsibility An understanding that the role of a technical specialist will occasionally require the flexibility to work out-of-hours and take ownership of service affecting issues until a satisfactory resolution is reached.   A commitment to knowledge sharing and cross skilling and a general appreciation of the need to eliminate single points of failure and enhance systems to the point of "zero effort maintenance" An ability to take an evidence-based approach to problems and developments, gather data and demonstrate how proposed solutions will provide optimal outcomes High levels of persuasion, persistence and determination, as well as the ability to influence and negotiate with people and present ideas and issues with authority and evidence Understanding and appreciation of a formalised service management approach (ITIL for example), including an understanding of incident, problem and change management.
